Task 5 Evaluate the response (D1:U21)

Task 5: Evaluate the response (D1:U21)

Learning Outcome 3 (U21):  Be able to pitch ideas on a proposed media product and respond to questions

D1 (U21): Discuss the client considerations for the creation of the product from the pitch

I will be presenting all of the feedback from the client which I have reflected on after my presentation. I will begin by identifying the useful points from the feedback in which will add to the process of creation and then identifying the feedback that I feel does not add to the process of my creation. I will justify the reasons as to why I have made these decisions.

Useful points from client feedback

Change the font for my masthead
As part of the feedback I was told to change the font of my masthead as it reflects a different music scene to the one I am trying to convey.
I will be following this piece of feedback. This adds to the process of creation as I understand that my font did not reflect the concept and genre of my magazine. As my magazine is a current pop magazine that is based on new and upcoming artists, a retro font could be considered as dated. Therefore I will be choosing a new font that reflects the genre I am trying to illustrate.
The font I have chosen is:

I feel this font is more effective as it has connotations that reflect the current genre of my magazine. It is also bold which will attract the reader and therefore reinforce brand recognition.

Increase the price
He said that £3.99 is significantly cheap for a big 180 page magazine like mine, and so i could increase the magazine by the minimum of £2.
I understand that it would be sufficient to increase the price of my magazine and so will follow through with this feedback. This is because I am offering a big magazine that includes a lot of content and exclusive articles, and offers a chance to win free tickets to a festival. Therefore I will be increasing my magazine by £3, from £3.99 to £6.99. This is a fair price and slightly lower than those in competition.

Add to the digital mock up
The client suggested that I should add more conventions and detail to my mock up that will make it look more like a magazine.
After some consideration i decided that it would be a good idea to add to my digital mock up. I think this is useful feedback that I can use to help develop my magazine as I will be creating my magazine in the same style and layout and with the same significant conventions as the mock up. I understand that I need to re edit my mock up and add more detail and specific conventions, such as a main image, that will make it look more like a magazine.

Points that do not add to the product creation

Change the colour of my masthead
The client stated that the masthead being black is not an effective way of reinforcing my brand, and I should consider changing the colour to something bright.
Although I considered this feedback from the client, I think that it would be more effective to keep the colour of my masthead black. This is because it is a bold colour and therefore will attract readers to the text which will reinforce brand recognition. As well as this, I want my magazine to be easily accessible and easy to understand, and so if I included a variety of clashing bright colours, it may be difficult to read the text and access the photos included.

Add more to the mood board, such as the colour palette and typography
I also took this feedback into consideration, but decided to leave my mood board as it is. This is because my magazine is an artist based magazine and so embedding images of the artists will give me inspiration for my magazine. I feel like I added more than just the artists. For example, the colours within the photos reflect the bright colours I want my magazine to consist of. The outfits they were wearing give me an idea on how to present the artist featured in my magazine visually, and the ways in which they are posing gives me an idea of what picture I should use as my main image.

Reconsider my colour scheme
The client advised that I should add more bright colours alongside purple, rather than black or white, as it conforms more to the pop genre.
I do not want to change the colour scheme of my magazine. Although I was advised to add more bright colours alongside purple rather than black and white, I have chosen not to. This is because I feel that clashing colours would make my magazine hard to access and difficult to understand. This would mean that the images have less chance of being easily identified and the cover lines and content within my magazine will be a struggle to read. This would not be appealing to my target audience as as well as this, I think that, as an older audience, they would favour a simplistic magazine in which they can focus on different conventions at a time, rather than a younger audience who would favour an abstract magazine that includes a variety of different colours, fonts and images.

Task 8: Post-production techniques and processes (U3: P5)

Task 8: Post-production techniques and processes (U3: P5)  Learning Outcome 4  (U3) :  Be able to carry out post-production techniques and processes for an original media product to a client brief.     P5  (U3) : Carry out post-production techniques and processes to produce a final original media product in line to the client brief    I firstly  uploaded my main image onto the front cover. I decided to do this before writing the cover-lines as then I would be able to scatter the cover-lines across the page without disrupting the main image.  I then used the shape tool and created a rectangle, that I used as a skyline.  I then duplicated the skyline layer, and dragged it to the bottom. This is so I have a space to put the significant conventions of a magazine, such as the date, edition number, price and website.  I then used the colour picker to change the 2 shapes to the colour purple, as that is the signature colour...
