The front cover of my magazine fits the client brief because it conforms to the requirement of the magazine being a North London based magazine by the cover line offering the chance to win tickets to wireless festival, is a festival based in North London. As well as this, another cover line states that the magazine will include upcoming events in North London, which also conforms to the requirement. The double page spread also reflects this part of the brief by one of the pictures within, as it has an model of the union jack in the background with the traditional English colours, blue and red, and as North London is in England, it can be seen as reflecting this part of the brief. As well as this, the QR code inside offers the chance to win wireless tickets, which is music event in North London.
It also conforms to the brief as it reinforces the fact that this is the first edition of my magazine.
The bright colour purple used as the signature colour, and the bright lights within the photo reflect the brief which states that it should illustrate the vibrant music scene developing locally and people need to know about it. This also applies to my double page spread, as the pictures consist of bright coloured lights in the background and purple is again the signature colour. This is important, as the colour purple will be associated with my brand and the front cover will match the vibe of the pages inside.
As well as this, it showcases the talent and venues in the area by it promoting niche and new artists within the pop genre, this is shown within my front cover by the main image being the artist, and the cover line stating that the magazine will consist of an exclusive interview with the artist. The double page spread also reflects this requirement in the brief by the main article being an exclusive interview with an artist and it stating the pop genres top 10 current hits. This showcases the talent within the area and in the pop genre as a whole.
I have produced original content for my magazine by embedding original photos that I have taken in my magazine. The double page spread of my magazine conforms to the client brief of producing original content by me also embedding original photos taken by me in the magazine. As well as this, the exclusive interview is written by me and so is original and cannot be found anywhere else.
It also conforms to the brief by it being both a print based, and online based magazine. This is reflected on both the front cover and double page spread. By reinforcing the website name on both the front cover and double page spread of the magazine, it highlights it's importance and hints that one can access multiple features on the website as it is an important part of the brand, including the online copy. By wanting a print based magazine, I added the traditional conventions that a magazine has. For example, the front cover has the date, the edition number 1, the link for the website and a bar code. As well as this, the double page spread also states the website and includes the page numbers.
Use of post production techniques for the front cover
Text tool
I used the text tool when creating my front cover to create the cover lines. This is an essential part of the magazine as it informs readers what is featured within the magazine. I used Sans serif style fonts so that it is easy to read. It also conforms to the genre of pop as it gives off a fun vibe rather than an undertone of seriousness.
This tool is also essential as my cover line states, top 10 upcoming events in North London, which conforms to the brief of my magazine being an North London based magazine, and without which would not be clear.
Using a few different fonts highlights the important parts of each cover line, and will catch readers attention, which is significant as the content within the magazine will be what the readers will look at when deciding whether to buy the magazine or not.
It was also used when inserting the masthead, which is an important convention of any magazine.
Outer glow and drop shadow
Crop tool
I used the crop tool on the front cover when placing the main image of the artist on the page. This is so the focus is drawn to the artist, as they feature in the main article of the magazine. As well as this, it highlights her dominance within the genre as she is at the centre of the page, holding direct eye contact with readers. However, I did not crop out the bright lights and colours in the background completely, as I feel it makes the image more appealing to my audience and allows the image to conform to the genre of pop.
Rectangle tool
I used the rectangle tool on the front cover when creating the skyline, and a space at the bottom of the page for the date, edition number, price and website to go. I did this as they are significant conventions within a magazine and so I wanted them to be clear, and separated from the rest of the page. I used the colour purple as it is the signature colour of my magazine. It appeals both to boys and girls, like pop does, and is a bright colour which connotes fun and joy, and I want my magazine to give off this impression.
Use of post production techniques for the double page spread
Text tool
I used the text tool when writing the body copy on the double page spread. It was used to promote this artist from the area of North London, which fits the brief. It also fits the brief by the text allowing me to reinforce the original content I have produced. It was also effective as you are able to fit the text into different columns, which is very significant as it means that it is clear for readers to access. As well as this, it will look more visually appealing for readers when the text is separated. It also conforms to the traditional conventions of a magazine. If the text was not separated it would be to hard to understand and to much information to grasp in one go.
Saturation
I used saturation on the double page spread to create different shades of purple for each of the columns. I did this so it shows that each section will be different. I also used saturation when editing the main image on the double page spread. I felt as though it is important to brighten the picture in order for it to stand out. I feel like bright images will be more visually appealing to my target audience, as I am targeting a younger demographic, and the brightness could demonstrate an undertone of youth.
Rectangle tool
The rectangle tool was used when creating my double page spread when creating the shapes for the columns in my magazine. This means that key information will be prioritised. It ensures that all information is clear to understand and is is unlikely to be taken in the wrong way as it will not be out of place. I used the colour purple when creating the shape for the text as it is the signature colour. By using the colour purple it fits the brief of my magazine, illustrating the vibrant music scene developing locally.
